Even better? The islands are one of this year’s best budget-friendly destinations according to the travel experts at eurochange.

“Boasting a diverse landscape, here you can find anything from volcanoes to deep green fields, bright blue waters and fields filled with hydrangeas.
“The fact that each island is surrounded by coastline means there are tons of gorgeous hidden beaches to explore, and you’re unlikely to bump into any visitors.
“With accommodation starting from less than £60 per night and a three course meal costing less than £50, this is a great low-cost holiday spot.”
The Azores is a top European hiking destination and tourists will find routes taking in waterfalls, beaches and lush greenery.
Wildlife is a top draw to the islands and there are more than two dozen whale species in the Azores’ waters.
Dolphins are also frequently spotted and tourists can join a wildlife watching boat tour, some of which offer a second outing if visitors don’t see anything.
If you’d rather just relax, check out the natural hot springs on Sao Miguel island or take a vineyard tour.
