Ever dreamed of spending your golden years overseas? According to the team at InternationalLiving, the south of France could be one of the best options.
France’s dazzling Cote D’Azur is known for beaches, rose wine and unfortunately high prices for housing and essentials.
However, the team said many expats have found the region surprisingly affordable, despite its prime Mediterranean location.
A team spokesperson said: “One of our favourite coastal towns is Antibes, a charming old port with medieval ramparts facing the sea and a harbour packed with sleek, ocean-going yachts.
“Although the Antibes Juan-les-Pins area is home to 70,000 people, the town itself doesn’t feel overwhelming.”
Antibes is situated between Cannes and Nice and it’s known for its atmospheric Old Town and forests. Expats will also find a Picasso Museum in the city.
One retired expat said she fell for Nice after moving to Paris from the USA and that she loves renting an apartment by the Mediterranean Sea.
Patty Sadaukas said: “It’s just so easy to live here. You can rent a one-bedroom apartment for 800 to 1,000 euros (£684-£855) and you don’t need a car.”
Nice is one of Europe’s most walkable cities with expats able to stroll from the Old Town to the beach in just a few steps.
Patty said she uses the local bus network to take trips to other towns and cities along the Riviera.
It’s even easy to travel to neighbouring countries such as Monaco and Italy on a short train journey from Nice.
