Desmond & Dempsey’s signature prints are instantly recognisable and undeniably chic. The brand is a go-to for crisp, airy cotton pyjama sets as well as floor-sweeping nighties and some of the most stylish slippers we’ve ever seen. As for those much-impersonated patterns? Expect prowling leopard, exotic flora and vivid birds of paradise.
Sleeper
If you haven’t heard of Ukrainian brand Sleeper, where have you been for the past few years? Its cult party pyjamas dominated during lockdown (and sparked hundreds of high street dupes) when comfort was priority and party dresses were off the menu.
The brand has since expanded to breezy summer dresses and jersey tracksuits, but it’s these particular PJs – which look just as good with heels as they do with slippers – that remain a best seller. The signature feather trims are a little impractical, we’ll admit, but the beauty of the OG pair is that you can detach them when washing (another reason why they’re well worth the investment).
Dora Larsen
You might know Dora Larsen for its colourful lingerie but the brand is also loved for its too-pretty-t0-just-sleep-in nightwear. The use of colour-block pastels, breezy linen, ruffles and puffed sleeves in its pyjamas and nightdresses means editors are not only wearing this stuff to bed but as resortwear in the summer, too.
Olivia Von Halle
Olivia Von Halle might just have reinvented the nightwear game when she launched her namesake brand a decade ago. The ultimate investments, her pricey pyjama sets have been on every fashion editor’s wishlist ever since.
The brand’s signature jewel-toned palettes, sumptuous silk-satins, mother of pearl buttons and velvet piping are the definition of luxury. Invest in a pair now and wear them with high heels and a padded headband to parties for double the wears.
Eberjey
Eberjey was one of the first brands to puts a luxury stamp on Modal. Spun into jersey, this sustainable yarn (it’s plant-based and biodegradable) has beautiful drape and feels incredibly soft against the skin. If you love the the look of silk piped pyjamas but not their high maintenance, the brand’s signature washable sets are for you – they’ve recently dropped different cuts, too, if you prefer short sleeves or cropped pants.
Rails
Rails is an LA-based brand womenswear brand, but it’s best known over here for its cool-girl pyjamas. Each pair is cut from plant-based rayon yarns that feel as soft as silk, but are much more hardwearing (not to mention easier to wash). We love the generous fit and playful prints – the brand drops a new plaid style every season.
Deiji Studios
Deiji Studios is the brainchild of Juliette Harkness and Emma Nelson, who founded the brand in 2016 with an aim to blur the lines between bedding and sleepwear. The result? Deliciously luxurious linen creations that drape rather than wrinkle, just like your favourite sheets.
The generously-cut kimonos are breezy, but weighty enough to see you through winter and summer seasons. We also love the brand’s poplin-cotton nighties, which double as a summer dress or beach cover-up.
Rixo
You might know Rixo for its cult printed dresses, but did you know the British brand does beautiful pyjamas too? Taking from the same vintage inspiration (founders Henrietta Rix & Orlagh McCloskey are big thrifters) as the label’s ready-to-wear, Rixo nightwear is totally unique. Think Pilgrim collars, lace trims, playful prints and plenty of ruffles.
John Lewis & Partners
One of the OG British department stores, John Lewis & Partners has always been a go-to for quality nightwear. But, recently, it’s also become a go-to for on-trend nightwear. This season, there’s luxury pyjamas aplenty from in-house lines and brands such as Chelsea Peers and Their Nibs; including piped silk-satin and velvet pairs to rival Olivia Von Halle’s iconic designs.
Sleeping with Jacques
Sleeping with Jacques’ nightwear is so beautiful that it should never been confined to the home. The brand is best known for its velvet Bon Vivant pyjama suits, complete with a wrap jacket and pleated pants, but also creates slip skirts, dresses and bodysuits.
These pieces look so louche and relaxed when paired with slides or a strappy stiletto at parties, but will work just as well with slippers at home. The chocolatey brown hues are a real 1990s throwback, but we’d recommend buying black if you’re in need of a staple pair.
Elizabeth Scarlett
Sleep easy knowing that Elizabeth Scarlett’s cotton pyjamas support the brand’s pledge towards wildlife conservation.
Founded in 2015, Elizabeth’s original watercolour paintings are the starting point for each sumptuously soft design, and express a lifelong commitment to the wellbeing of animals. Our pick? The brand’s limited-edition conservation range – featuring turtle and tiger prints made in partnership with Blue Marine Foundation, which protects over 3000 turtle hatchlings, and SUJÁN, which aids the conservation of wild tigers in India.
If Only If Nightwear
Loved by Pandora Sykes, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lucy Williams, If Only If Nightwear is known for its romantic, ruffle-trimmed nightgowns with an unabashedly feminine, Pre-Raphaelite vibe.
The label’s roomy pieces are both breastfeeding- and pregnancy-friendly, chiming perfectly with its focus on motherhood. The brand wins extra points for inclusive sizing (UK 6-24) and its small, waste-minimising production lines.
Morgan Lane
Morgan Lane’s playful pyjamas have been spotted on the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Nicole Richie. Founder Morgan Curtis’ hand-drawn prints and custom embroidery (a big hit with bridal parties, and Gigi) are fast becoming a USP for the New York based brand. We’re also in love with the retro references that surface every season: think candy coloured satin, loveheart motifs and girlish ruffled trims.
Asceno
Founded in 2016, Asceno was truly one of the first womenswear brands to style pyjamas as ready-to-wear. Its silk-satin sets were tailored just-so – with louche, mensy silhouettes and neat, partially-elasticated waistbands – to look instantly smart when paired with heels and jewellery. The brand has stuck to its USP ever since: you can find every slip dress colourway under the sun within its seasonal drops, as well as resort-appropriate linen night- and loungewear.
Stripe & Stare
Stripe & Stare is best known for its cutesy days-of-the-week knickers, but has recently expanded into lounge and sleepwear lines – all made from the same eco-friendly, bio-degradable micro-modal. A recent collaboration with LoveShackFancy saw the labels’s signature floral prints reincarnated in a range of comfy pyjamas, cami tops and bikini briefs.
SKIMS
Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS has gone from strength to strength since it launched back in 2018. Starting off as an inclusive shapewear brand, it has quickly graduated to lounge and sleepwear.
The brand has proved that you can get creative with nightwear. Its sell-out Cosy collection comprises stretch-bouclé robes, joggers and crop tops. You can also find printed onesies and maxi sleep slips, satin pyjama sets and nightshirts, or the new jersey basics collection (pictured).
Nudea
Nudea made a name for itself with comfort-first lingerie, which is why we were thrilled when the female founded brand launched its Sleep section. We love the curated lineup of organic-cotton nightshirts and pyjamas, silk sleep masks and alpaca socks. Nudea is B-corp certified, carbon neutral on shipping, and donates 1% of every sale to charity, if you needed any more convincing.
Pour Les Femmes
Pour Les Femmes – which translate to ‘for women’ in French – was founded in 2014 by the actor and activist Robyn Wright (of House of Cards fame) and designer Karen Fowler. The name has a very literal meaning: the duo partner with charities working in conflict zones to help build schools for girls and help teach women employment skills.
The designs are pretty cool, too. Expect lots of linen and cotton-poplin sets, with the occasional statement satin piece thrown in to collections ahead of the party season.
Tekla
Copenhagen-based brand Tekla has become a household name in recent years. Launching with purely homewear in 2017, its quality bed linens, organic terry robes and cult mohair blankets blew up during lockdown. The label’s foray into apparel sticks to the same low-key-but-luxe approach: crisp cotton-poplin pyjamas and lounge sets in simple ticking stripes and pastel hues are the order of the day.
