MANILA, Philippines — After being included in the Grammy website’s “12 Rising Girl Groups to Know Now” list, P-Pop girl group Bini marked another milestone as it earned a nomination for the Best Asia Act at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
The eight-member group, consisting of members Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, will be competing against some of Asia’s top music acts: ILLIT from South Korea, Japan’s Sakurazaka46, Indonesia’s Mahalini, and Malaysia’s Masdo.
“Starting off the EMA season with the Best Asia Nominee For 2024: [Philippine flag emoji] @bini_ph,” MTV announced Tuesday on its social media page.
Should Bini win, it will be the first Filipino group to take home the award in this category. Previous Filipino nominees for Best Asia Act include Sarah Geronimo (2014), Maymay Entrata (2022), and Moira Dela Torre (2023).
Geronimo and James Reid won the MTV EMA Best Southeast Asian Act in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
Fans can now cast their votes on the MTV EMA website until Wednesday, November 6. Voters are allowed up to 10 votes per day. The awards night will be held on Sunday, November 10, at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England, and broadcast live across MTV channels globally.
Since debuting under ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy in 2021 with their empowering anthem “Born to Win,” Bini released a string of hits, including the viral tracks “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” and “Cherry On Top,” among many others.
The nomination comes just ahead of their sold-out, three-night concert “Grand Biniverse,” set to take place at the Araneta Coliseum from November 16 to 18.
