At Time Out, we certainly know what makes a great city – and we’ve got a comprehensive list of the best ones to visit this year to prove it. But there are other rankings out there, and Resonance Consultancy’s very well-researched roundup of Europe’s top cities has just been released.
Every year, Resonance Consultancy, the company behind WorldsBestCities.com, conducts research into over 180 European cities, assessing everything from nightlife and the number of Facebook check-ins to airport connectivity and monthly rent prices.
And for the second year in a row, the best-ranking city is … London! The UK capital topped a staggering 12 out of 27 categories. Much like last year’s rankings, the city got a shoutout for extensions to its transport network and a cracking roster of new restaurants. You can read more about London’s win here.
Tourist numbers in London have pretty much bounced back to pre-2020 levels, and a wave of dazzling new hotel openings has bolstered the city’s success too.
Again, as it did in 2023, Paris claimed second place, which isn’t that surprising ahead of the city hosting the Olympics and Paralympics this summer. But as a place to live, it also ranks well. Around 70 percent of Parisians don’t own cars, and the report finds that locals appreciate the city’s air quality and the benefits to their own health.
In third place, it’s Berlin, which has climbed impressively from spot number seven last year. It ranks well for culture (which includes festivals and concerts) as well as nightlife, but given the city is constantly thinking of unique places to party, we aren’t that surprised about that either.
These are Europe’s best cities for 2024, according to Resonance
