The race for the Premier League top six places is on.
Only 27 days until we reach the end of this ‘interesting’ season.
Happily, Newcastle United are ending it in very decent style, the Premier League form table showing only Man City with 14 points from their last possible 18, having picked up more points than Eddie Howe’s side with 13 points from four wins and a draw in their last half dozen games.
When it comes to who will finish Premier League top six (and other variations, in terms of final positions in the table), an ever changing picture.
This is the updated Premier League table on this Monday (22 April 2024) morning with Newcastle United having six games left to play :
Listed below are the updated general Premier League odds now available from the various bookies for this 2023/24 season:
Finish Premier League top six (in brackets what the odds were before the previous weekend’s results when Newcastle hammered Tottenham):
No offers Man City
No offers Liverpool
No offers Arsenal
No offers Tottenham (1/100)
No offers Villa (1/100)
5/4 Newcastle United (9/4)
6/4 Man U (4/5)
9/2 Chelsea (5/1)
70/1 Brighton (40/1)
475/1 West Ham (33/1)
As you can see, Newcastle United are now favourites to get that top six spot, having moved ahead of Man U in both the Premier League table and in the bookies odds.
Newcastle United are now 16 points off Premier League top four after Villa’s win on Sunday over Bournemouth, so that (top four) is now looking a ‘little’ unlikely.
However, sixth place is very much on, with the bookies seeing it as a three horse race with Man U and Chelsea.
Brighton and West Ham have fallen away, they are third and fourth bottom of the Premier League form table respectively, having each picked up only five points from their last possible eighteen. The Hammers collapsing to a 5-2 defeat at Crystal Palace yesterday to surely end their chances of top six.
Can Eddie Howe and his team take advantage of a remaining schedule (see below) that sees four of their remaining six matches against clubs in the bottom seven?
In the next matches for the three contenders, Chelsea are away at Arsenal on Tuesday night, then whilst Newcastle are away at Palace on Wednesday, Man U are home to Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, this is how the bookies now see the fight for the title and to end up in the top four.
Finish top of the table:
4/6 Man City
7/2 Arsenal
5/1 Liverpool
Finish top four:
No offers Man City
No offers Liverpool
No offers Arsenal
4/11 Villa
13/5 Tottenham
250/1 Chelsea
375/1 Newcastle United
500/1 Man U
