Rafael Nadal withdraws from Laver Cup: What’s next for the tennis legend? | Tennis News – Times of India
Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup in Berlin, which is set to take place from September 20-22. The 38-year-old tennis legend announced his decision on Thursday.
“I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. This is a team competition and to really support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them, and at this moment, there are other players who can help the team deliver the win,” Nadal, known for his multiple injuries in recent years, expressed his disappointment, was quoted as saying by AP.
The tournament in Berlin would have been Nadal’s first event since his participation in the Paris Olympics. The Laver Cup is a team event where Team Europe competes against Team World on indoor hard courts.
Nadal had already missed three of the four Grand Slam tournaments in 2024 and missed the US Open last month due to health issues. His current fitness levels and future plans remain unclear. A replacement for Nadal in Team Europe has not been announced.
