Vienna (AUSTRIA) – We found out our semi-final matchups that’ll compete for medals tomorrow at the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2024 on August 24.
Quarter-final recap
Poland stay unbeaten
The Polish women started off quarter-final action with a gritty 19 – 17 victory against Latvia. Klaudia Gertchen and Weronika Telenga combined for 13 points in the effort. Telenga was huge on the defensive end as well, stifling Latvia from gaining momentum. Her free throw near the end sealed the deal.
Spain showcase pedigree
The Spanish women continued to make good on their contender status with a win over Ukraine, 18 – 15. Sandra Ygueravide and Gracia Alonso got 6 points each as they did enough to hold off a late surge from Ukraine.
Vega Gimeno was instrumental in their offense, pulling the strings for the Spaniards.
Switzerland display resilience
Finding themselves down for the initial phase of the action, Switzerland once again pulled away with a victory, this time against a history-making Great Britain.
Natan Jurkovitz picked up 9 points while Jonathan Dubas got 5, including the dagger two at the end to call game for the Swiss.
Serbia return to form
After a faltering start to their pool phase, Serbia had a tall task to overcome as they took on the Olympic Gold medaling Dutch side. A blockbuster game all the way, it was Serbia who ran away with it at the end.
Stefan Kojic picked up 9 points while Strahinja Stojacic made his presence felt with 8 points.
The Dutch blaze past Olympic champs
Reigning Europe Cup champs Netherlands came out on top against Paris gold medalists Germany in a heated battle, 20 – 15.
Janis Ndiba got 8 points while Noortje Driessen added in 6. They capitalised on their experience as they’ll hope to go back-to-back on Day 4.
France take down home side Austria
France battled through home advantage to defeat Austria in the Quarter-final, 21 – 15.
Camille Droguet and Noemi Brochant combined for 13 as the French women stayed a step ahead of Austria the entire way.
Titas leads the way for Lithuania
Titas Janusevicius was on fire yet again for Lithuania as his 11 points led the way for their victory against France.
Pukelis chipped in with 6 points as their offense was too much for France to contend with.
Austria shine at home against Spain
An incredible performance from Austria in front of the Vienna crowd capped off an action-packed day.
Nico Kaltenbrunner went off for 13 in their 21 – 16 win against in-form Spain to book their spot to the semi-final!
Semi-final matchups
France v Netherlands
A marquee matchup on the women’s side as two juggernauts face off. Both teams have been on fire all season, and this tournament. Both boast perfect records and an immaculate system of play. Only one team will advance for that gold medal game though, fireworks inbound.
Poland v Spain
The Olympic silver medalists will face their biggest challenge of the tournament so far against a young and lethal Poland. Both sides possess incredible offensive ability, playing a free flowing style with the ability to score from deep.
Expect a closely fought battle for a shot at Gold.
Switzerland v Serbia
Do not count out the Swiss.
They have been undeniable all tournament with a 3-0 record so far. It won’t be as straightforward in the semis as they face the Serbian juggernauts who seemed to finally be hitting their stride.
It’ll be a high-flying battle with plenty of buckets.
Lithuania v Austria
Two in-form sides with on-fire scoring collide for a spot in the final.
It’ll be a battle of wills between home side Austria and the unstoppable Lithuania, one shot at history in Vienna.
