It’s no secret that our friends across the pond love a European getaway.
But where on the continent has the most number of US visitors every year? Well, it’s actually over here in England as London tops the list as the city in Europe with the highest amount of American tourists.
Europe has been revealed as America’s leading tourist destination with Paris, Dublin and Rome it’s next most visited cities.
Over 80.7 million US Citizens travelled abroad in 2022, according to data from the International Trade Administration (ITA). The ITA also shared some of the European countries most visited by Americans:
The vast majority (80%) booked at a seven day trip when and smaller percentage (11%) travelled for eight days or more.
VisitGuide.com also shares that Americans also choose Europe as a destination during the colder months, due to the variety of winter activities such as Christmas markets in Vienna or very sought after ski resorts and getways in the Swiss Alps.
In summer however, American travelers enjoy cities such as Paris, Rome or Athens to enjoy the culture, art, history, weather and culinary experiences these capitals have to offer.
As 2023 already welcomed 55% of Americans, 2024 saw an increase in in inbound tourism from the United States making it by far, their top outbound destination with a staggering 15.8 million visits. The Caribbean coming the second top destination with a recored of 9.2 million visitors.
As of December 2024, US passport holders will be able to access 150 countries and territories, visa free, enabling global and extensive travel, 48 of these countries are in Europe.
