Vitor Pereira is fortunate to have such a talented squad at his disposal at Wolves following his arrival.
Pereira’s historic start to life as Wolves manager would not have been possible without the quality the Portuguese has in his squad.
From Matheus Cunha’s brilliance in 2024/25 so far, to the early successes of summer signing Jorgen Strand Larsen, Pereira will be relishing the standard within his side.
While Cunha frequently steals the headlines, and for good reason too, the Brazilian isn’t the only Wolves player to be shining brightly.
Wolves will have to deal without their star player for the next two games, as Cunha was handed a two-match ban for his involvement in the ugly post-match scenes against Ipswich Town.
Fortunately, Pereira has other talent to fall back on, with two Wolves players showing their worth way beyond the comfort of Molineux.
Rayan Ait-Nouri and Joao Gomes ranked in the top ten players in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024 for the number of ground duels won over the calendar year.
Ait-Nouri, who was one of Wolves’ best players in 2024, ranked sixth in the top ten with 189 ground duel wins, while Gomes placed eighth, winning 185.
Both Wolves players finished ahead of Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister in the top ten, as well as Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Gomes and Ait-Nouri are both crucial to how the Old Gold play, as the duo have handed Pereira the ability to play the way he wants to with reference to his favoured formation.
Pereira called Ait-Nouri ‘quality’ before handing the Algerian his first start under the new boss when Manchester United visited Molineux, sparking competition with fellow full-back Rodrigo Gomes.
The new manager is already familiar with Gomes’ game having briefly coached the midfielder at Flamengo.
It’s clear that the boss is satisfied with the midfield pairing he’s unleashed between the Brazilian and his countryman Andre, who have been crucial to Pereira’s unbeaten start.
