Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is in awe of ambitious West Ham as the Hammers sit in Europe’s top eight elite.
West Ham face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park after what is being regarded the club’s best ever transfer window.
Just two of West Ham’s eight new arrivals started the season opening defeat to Villa.
Now Hammers supporters are hoping to see more of the new arrivals kicking off against the Eagles.
New striker Niclas Fullkrug is expecting to see himself in the West Ham starting line-up for Crystal Palace after his comments in the wake of that Villa defeat.
He could be one of four new boys in the starting line-up.
Crystal Palace have been forced to sell their star players such as Michael Olise, Joachim Andersen and – next week if reports are accurate – Marc Guehi.
It serves as a poignant reminder to West Ham fans that their club has also kept hold of their best players this summer.
Fullkrug, Jean-Clair Todibo, former Eagles star Aaron Wan-Bissaka, World Cup winning midfielder Guido Rodriguez, Championship player of the year Crysencio Summerville, £40m defender Max Kilman and Brazilian teen sensation Luis Guilherme have been added to the quality already at West Ham.
They are linking up with Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Edson Alvarez, Emerson and Alphonse Areola.
It has left Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner in awe of ambitious West Ham as the Hammers sit in Europe’s top eight.
Speaking about West Ham’s summer business, Glasner has been blown away.
Especially given the talent already at the London Stadium.
And it comes after it emerged West Ham are in Europe’s top eight biggest spenders this summer window – with potentially more to come before deadline day.
“When we talk about West Ham, we can see that they look very ambitious,” Glasner said pre-match as reported on Palace’s website.
“They spent a lot of money for many new players, for high-quality players. I know some, like Fullkrug, a little bit better from Germany.
“They brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who I think Crystal Palace know pretty well, and [Jean-Clair] Todibo, and [Crysencio] Summerville, and I think five others, because they have many, many good players now. I think it’s also for them to find the team now, and this is what Julen is working on.
“But yes, they have high-quality players, with Jarrod Bowen, with [Lucas] Paqueta, with [Mohammed] Kudus, with [Michael] Antonio, Fullkrug… in midfield and in defence, [Max] Kilman, they bought for, I don’t know, £40 million.”
Football analysts Breaking The Lines have taken a deep dive into West Ham’s window.
And they have revealed only seven clubs have spent more than the east Londoners.
The highest-spending clubs in Europe at the time of writing, according to the site, are: 1. Chelsea (£203.6m) 2. Atlético Madrid (£156.7m) 3. Aston Villa (£150.7m) 4. Brighton (£145m) 5. PSG (£144.8m) 6. Manchester Utd (£140.5m) 7. Tottenham (£129m) 8. West Ham (£123.4m).
Now it is up to Julen Lopetegui to ensure he can knit it all together on the pitch.
Starting, he and West Ham fans will hope, against Palace at Selhurst Park.
