Italy is top in Europe for the number
of unaccompanied migrant minors who go missing, according to a
new three-year report.
Some 22,899 unaccompanied migrant kids disappeared in Italy over
the last three years, and 10,100 in 2023 alone, said the report,
“Lost in Europe” (lostineurope.org) on the 2021-2023 period in
30 countries, the 27 EU members plus the UK, Switzerland and
Norway.
Austria was second with just over 20,000 missing unaccompanied
minors over the three years.
The migrant children and teens who go missing are mainly from
Afghanistan, Syria, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco, said Lost in
Europe.
