The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey announced this week that a lucky winner hit for $1,593,457 while playing a Wheel of Fortune slot machine.
The prize was a progressive jackpot, according to the casino.
The winner, who was visiting from out-of-state and declined to be named, had bet $10 on the game. The player had wagered $87 before the big win.
The casino said the huge win was among the top five it has paid out since opening in 2018.
CASINO RECENTLY IN NEWS
The Hard Rock was recently in the headlines for a historic Pride Month event that featured a Staten Islander.
It was the first time in the history of Atlantic City that a casino hosted a formal flag-raising ceremony in honor of Pride Month.
Three-time Daytime Emmy winner and writer Anthony Wilkinson, a Staten Islander, hoisted the flag following AC Pride’s Third Annual Rainbow Ride & March, which is also sponsored by the Hard Rock.
NEW YORK WAITING FOR CASINO WINDFALL
It may not be long before it is a player at a New York City casino that is hoping for a big win on the slots — although for some of those hoping to develop a casino site in the city, the state is not moving fast enough.
Before the end of the legislative session, lawmakers in Albany passed a bill that established deadlines for the submission of casino proposals (August 2024), and for the selection of the winning bids (by the end of 2025).
A push for the legalization of online gambling was also proposed and pursued during the session, but failed to get traction — including a bill that would only have legalized two online poker games.
